Angela Bassett is set to receive an honorary Oscar at this year’s Governors Awards. The well-deserved honor will take place in November.

Our Queen, Angela Bassett is getting her due! The legendary actress who is representing the Black community in everything she does, is getting an honorary Oscar.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is making the announcement to the delight of fans everywhere. Adding that Mel Brooks and Carol Littleton will also be receiving honorary awards.
Additionally, Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter is set to get the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. All four awards will be presented in Los Angeles later this year on Saturday, November 18.
Addressing the announcement, Academy President Janet Yang has this to say –
“The Academy’s Board of Governors is thrilled to honor four trailblazers who have transformed the film industry and inspired generations of filmmakers and movie fans.”
Speaking specifically about Bassett’s career, she says –
“Across her decades-long career, Angela Bassett has continued to deliver transcendent performances that set new standards in acting.”
Truer words about Bassett have never been spoken. The 64-year-old legend has been in the game going on four decades.

Her magnificent body of work includes the breakthrough role of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It? That effort led to her first Oscar nomination in 1993.
Along the way, she graced us with her talent in film favorites such as Boyz n the Hood, Malcolm X, Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, and Avengers: Endgame.
Additionally, she makes her mark in television. She’s played Michael Jackson’s mother Katherine Jackson in the miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream, The Notorious B.I.G.’s mom Voletta Wallace in Notorious, Rosa Parks in The Rosa Parks Story, and Martin Luther King’s wife, Coretta Scott King in Betty and Coretta.
Currently, you can catch up with her on the small screen and behind the camera in the television series 9-1-1.
Most recently, her performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as Queen Ramonda, got the Oscar nod. However, she was snubbed once again. Yet she has picked up quite a bit of other awards along the way for her work in various films.
Now fans are rejoicing, knowing that she’s on her way to being bestowed this prestigious honorary Oscar at last.
