Kanye West Sued Over Another ‘Donda 2’ Sample. Just last month, it was reported that Kanye West was being sued by a pastor. Now, house music pioneer Marshall Jefferson wants in on the action.
Kanye West Sued Again
Kanye West Sued Over Another ‘Donda 2’ Sample. Of course, some of his biggest hits were birthed from a music sample. For example, Jesus Walks, Golddigger, and Spaceships.
Importantly, the song that introduced Ye to the world Through The Wire. Which samples Chaka Khan’s Through The Fire. Well, all that sampling seems to be backfiring. As previously mentioned, a Texas pastor sued him for using his sermon on a single sometime last month.
Unfortunately, house music singer Marshall Jefferson is the latest person to accuse West of wrongfully sampling his work.
According to Rolling Stone, the Chicago rapper used Jefferson’s 1986 hit Move Your Body on a song called Flowers.
Thus, Marshall’s music publisher, Ultra International Music Publishing filed a formal complaint in NYC earlier this week.

Interestingly, Marshall Jefferson also hails from Chicago and is a house music pioneer. Regarding music sampling, he had this to say:
“I’ve been sampled thousands of times. There is a right way and a wrong way to go about it.”
Additionally, Jefferson explained the disappointment he feels as a result of the wrongful sample.
“Getting done by another artist, a black artist, a fellow Chicagoan without acknowledgment is disappointing.”
Apparently, the song reflects Wests’ marriage and divorce from Kim K. Also, team Yeezy allegedly spoke to Jefferson and his team about the sample. But never cleared anything.
Furthermore, team Ye is suspected to have paid under the table rather than acquiring the proper licensing.
As a result, Ultra seeks $150,000 per infringement, or a trial to decide the final outcome. Do you think Kanye will settle out of court?
So far, Ye and team have yet to release any statements. Stay tuned as the story develops.
