Coach Dawn Staley: History In The Making
If you are familiar with women’s pro basketball, you know Dawn Staley. And if not, let us introduce you. Staley is one of the most celebrated WNBA players of all time. Some may even consider her the goat.
Dawn Staley Is The Highest Paid Female Coach
Dawn Staley is officially the highest-paid head coach in NCAA Women’s Basketball. She will receive a contract totaling $22.4 million for sevens years. Her head coaching position with The University of South Carolina, is a first for a black female, as reported by AfroTech.
The Hall of Famer coached for 13 seasons at the University. It is the first time in NCAA history a black female coach will earn this much. For a Philadelphia-born black female, this is phenomenal.
Also, Staley has helped USC to win the coveted championship in 2017. Under Staley’s reign, the USC has been first place five times. Additionally, Staley is credited with building the team to its current status.
This is a historic moment. Especially, since we have never seen a black female coach achieve such great success.

Who Is Dawn Staley?
Not many black female basketball players have the same success as Staley. She started her basketball career at Dobbins Technical High school in Philadelphia PA and earned her degree in Rhetoric Communication at the University of Virginia, according to Wiki. During her college years, Staley took the basketball team to four NCAA tournaments, three finals, and one National Championship game. Here is a list of Staley’s accomplishments:

Having said this, Staley has a very impressive career. As a 4-time Olympic champion Staley has earned her place in women’s basketball. Not to mention, Staley has one of the winnest teams in the NCAA. It is clear that Staley has made history.
Furthermore, Staley has paved the way for other black women coaches to get better salaries. Also, more women of color will be able to have head coaching positions in the NCAA.
