Students have until October 16 to apply for the funds, as stated by Black Enterprise.

Her idea is to uplift and empower women who would otherwise not be able to finish college.

Due to the cost of college, many disenfranchised women have difficulty paying tuition.

Therefore, completing a degree becomes unattainable for some women.

This is Blige’s way to give back to less fortunate women.

Recipients of this scholarship will be awarded $30,000 annually towards their bachelor’s.

Here are some of the requirements,

  • Self-identify as female
  • Be a current college sophomore undergraduate at Hampton University
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at Hampton University for the entire 2024 – 2025 academic year
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)
  • Pepsico employees and children of Pepsico employees are ineligible.
  • Be pursuing one of the following degrees: Business Administration, Marketing, Arts, Finance, Creative Design

The scholarship is renewable for up to one year or until a bachelor’s degree is earned (whichever statute occurs first). Perspective recipients also must maintain a satisfactory academic performance (earn a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale) and be enrolled full-time in an eligible major at Hampton.

As mentioned, it is an initiative named after her highly successful album, according to BET.

The scholarship program is open to eligible students nationwide to encourage them to pursue their educational dreams.

The ‘Strength of a Woman’ scholarship program will assist deserving students financially.

That exemplifies the determination and drive to overcome obstacles and succeed academically.

By offering this support, Mary J. Blige hopes to impact young individuals’ lives positively.

Otherwise, individuals who face financial barriers in accessing higher education would fail.

Through her own experiences, Blige understands the importance of education and aims to inspire and uplift future generations.
