I digress. Perhaps that is why some people gave Tyler the thumbs up. While others claimed the movie was over-the-top and lacked depth.

We must emphasize that Tyler’s movie ‘Straw’ was one of the most-watched movies on Netflix, as stated by Yahoo Entertainment.

Since its release, many have shared their opinions on how they liked or disliked the movie.

For the most part, women have shared that the movie resonated with them. On the other hand, men and critics feel that Tyler pulls on the heartstrings of women.

But he fails to present Black women in a positive light. When it comes to portraying the everyday struggles of Black women, he nails it.

However, there is much more to the experience of Black women, with multiple layers that deserve exploration.

That is, if we are to tell the stories of Black women, then we need women to tell them. Not to say we don’t appreciate Tyler’s efforts, but it’s his experiences that we value.

And to tell our stories effortlessly, we need women at the forefront. It has been said that Tyler writes all of his material; if so, again, it’s his perspective.

There is so much more to our stories as Black women. Please, don’t misunderstand what I am saying. If it were not for Tyler, our stories would be unheard of.

So, we are in favor of Tyler continuing to put the spotlight on us, as Black women. At least, it is a Black man sharing our lives in movies.

Having said this, it does not exempt Tyler from sharing more positive stories on the Black women’s experiences.

We can’t deny that ‘Straw’ has sparked many conversations. According to The Grio, some are saying it’s some of Tyler’s best work.

After seeing the movie myself, I would agree to some extent. However, I would have loved to see a different outcome. In case you have not seen it, I don’t want to spoil it for you.

I will say this, Tyler does know how to capture your attention. From the very beginning of the movie until the end, you will be on the edge of your seat. At least, that was my experience.

As I mentioned earlier, some think it was a hit, while others don’t. Critics claim it was another story of a Black woman down on her luck. 

Others, however, see the film as a misstep for Tyler, who often showcases the tragedy associated with single women. Some think Tyler’s films are polarizing audiences with repetitive storylines.

While some may hail it as a triumph of storytelling and emotional resonance.

Meanwhile, the debate continues, with people claiming ‘Straw’ was a great movie about black women’s traumatic experiences.

In addition, Tyler continues to employ black actors. More importantly, Tyler pays well and creates an environment most actors like.

Therefore, making him one of the most sought-after film directors. Straw is a work that will continue to spark debates and discussions for years to come.
