Despite lacking talent and originality, Budden believed that rappers like Latto, Flo Milli and Rapsody may remain. But others, may have not lived up to the hype.
However, he did give props to rapper Megan Thee Stallion. He claims, “A song with no hook, where you’re just firing at n—– and with that long speech in it, to go number one, that’s big,” Budden admitted. “You gotta give it to her.”
He was referring to Megan’s diss track allegedly about rapper Nicki Minaj. That diss song did very well on the charts.
Therefore allegedly proving Megan can spit bars with the best of them. But is Joe Budden the best to make these assumptions about female hip-hop staying power?
After all, he is no longer part of the hip-hop game. For the most part, Joe spends his time commentating on hip-hop. Nevertheless, Joe had weighed on the situation.
Budden’s proclamation sparked a mix of reactions from fans and industry insiders. Some agreed with his assessment, while his co-host Lamar ‘Ice’ Burney did not.
Budden claims Megan had a lot of marketing help to promote her. Therefore, some of her success could be attributed to the big push of marketing, as stated by Rolling Out.
Regardless of where one stands on the issue, Joe Budden’s take has undeniably brought attention to the current landscape.
