However, the artist managed to escape unscathed as he dodged drug charges that could have tarnished his reputation and possibly led to legal consequences. Cornell Haynes II, known for hits like “Hot in Herre” and “Dilemma,” enjoyed a night out at a casino. However, a security officer stopped Nelly at the Hollywood Casino after a huge win.
The 49-year-old rapper was arrested around 4:45 a.m. on August 7, 2024. According to Yahoo, When Nelly went to collect his winnings, he was taken into custody.
The Casino’s policy required winners to be checked for a warrant search. During the search, the state trooper allegedly found Nelly had an outstanding bench warrant in 2018.
This alleged warrant was for Nelly operating a vehicle without proof of insurance, as stated by Page Six. The officer searched Nelly, and allegedly, four ecstasy pills were found on him.
Lucky Break: Nelly Dodges Drug Charges
Nelly won’t face drug charges in a Saint Louis Casino. His attorney, Scott Rosenblum, mentioned that Nelly being searched was unwarranted.
In other words, Nelly could have been targeted by an overzealous officer. The prosecutor agreed that the “facts in this case” do not” warrant the issuing of charges.”
Therefore, Nelly dodged drug charges. Scott said the decision was “a fair and impartial review of the evidence.” Having four ecstasy pills is not considered to be a controlled substance.
Or at least the pills were not a reason for Nelly to be arrested. Nevertheless, Nelly was able to walk away without being charged. In other words, the drug case was dismissed.
Meanwhile, the other alleged warrant for Nelly’s lack of insurance was resolved. So, all is well that ends well, at least for now.
With this incident behind him, Nelly can focus on his music, new marriage, and fatherhood.
