Abdul Vicks, better known as YBL Dul, was allegedly shot and killed in the streets of Philadelphia. According to 6ABC News, the shooting happened in the Olney section of Philly.

Authorities say the 25-year-old rapper was considered to be a notorious ringleader of a gang. This street gang hails in West Philadelphia and is part of the ‘Drill Rap’ community.

Vicks was said to be shot multiple times, as stated by The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Hailing from a rough neighborhood, Vicks used his music to become popular in the ‘Drill Rap’ scene. Prosecutors say Abdul Vicks was part of the ‘Young Bag Chasers.’

This alleged gang is well known within the Drill Rap community. Although we are not sure if Abdul was indeed a gang member, police are saying it is possible.

The news of Abdul Vicks’s sudden death shocked the rap community. It is the case of another promising rapper cut down too soon.

It leaves us to believe that a rap career can lead to possible death. And, while there are no quick answers, something has to be done.

As the world mourned the loss of a promising talent, questions lingered about what could have been done to prevent this tragedy. For some of our youth, gangs are a means to find friends.

Unfortunately, young boys get involved with gangs for various reasons. One of the most important reasons is a feeling of belonging.

Often, these young inner-city boys don’t have positive role models. Therefore, a gang lifestyle becomes appealing. That is why you see so many youth gravitating towards street gangs.

Despite the negative connotations that go along with the gang lifestyle, Sadly, young boys resort to violence, stealing, killing, and selling drugs.

There is nothing good that can come from being part of a gang. Philadelphia is quickly becoming a city filled with gun violence deaths. At this point, we are not sure when the killing will stop.

But we must not give up on our youth.
