Former NFL running back Cedric Benson dies in motorcycle crash. Sports fans mourn the untimely death of this Texas Longhorns former player. Benson was only 36- years- old. Benson had one of the most impressive records in college football with rushing for 5,540 yards and 64 touchdowns.
Benson was a marquee player in the NFL league
Benson was a key player under coach Mack Brown, according to Black America Web. Coach Brown made a statement about Benson after hearing the tragic news:
“He was as good as you’ll ever seen as a football player and as tough as they come.” said Brown. “But what I’ll remember most is what a special, special person he was. We always enjoyed talking with him because he was such a bright and unique guy. There will never be another one like him, and he will be dearly missed by so many. It’s just heartbreaking, but we feel very fortunate to have had him in our lives.”
Benson was the top high school recruit out of the West Texas town of Midland, according to Black America Web. Benson led Midland Lee to three straight state championships in 1998 -2000. Benson was drafted No.4 overall by the Bears in 2005, and helped Chicago reach the playoffs in the following season. Benson played his finest football with Cincinnati from 2008 – 2011.
