Muni Long’s Alleged Refusal to Help Non-Melanated Artists. A rising star within the music industry, Muni Long is known for her songs, such as “Midnight Snack,” which have created a stir. She has quickly gained a loyal following of fans captivated by her talent and charisma. However, recently, she made headlines for her alleged controversial decision to refuse to write songs for “non-melanated” arrests.
The Rising Star: Muni Long

The singer/songwriter was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and first gained recognition for her covers of popular songs. Her soulful voice was heard on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
Her impressive soulful voice, especially her vocal range, caught the attention of industry insiders and led to a record deal with Epic Records.
Since then, she has risen to stardom, collaborating with artists like Yung Bleu and releasing her solo projects to critical acclaim. This happened on Christmas Day. Muni Long posted a joke on her TikTok that went viral.
She alleged stated,
“F**k no!” the Boosie voiceover says in a clip. ” And Imma stand on that. And they can get in my DD-you can get it my DM all you want, every day.”
Then she doubled down, saying, “I don’t want your money. I don’t care about no Oscar for it. “I WON’T BE PARTICIPATING CAUSE WHAT BOOSIE SAID! Get somebody else to do it.”
As you can see, Muni Long is not concerned about the so-called “powers that be.” Let me guess: Some music executive wanted Muni to write for artists other than her race or ethnicity.
We don’t have to read between the lines because Muni’s words say it all.
The Unexpected Music Refusal
Muni Long took a stand on who she would not write music for in a surprising turn of events. While Muni Long is signed with Def Jam, she has written for other artists.
BET reports that Muni Long has written songs for Rihanna, Tamar Braxton, and Mary J. Blige. She has also written songs for Grammy-award-winning artist Mariah Carey.
She also has credits on songs by non-Black artists, including Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, and MIKA.

TMZ reports that Muni Long allegedly walked away from a meeting with Atlantic Records.
Therefore, can we assume Atlantic Records requested that Muni write for non-melanated artists? Some may find Muni Long’s boldness disconcerting.
However, she chooses who she writes music for. While Muni’s alleged declaration may take some aback, others will understand.
The music industry is constantly changing, which is understandable. However, some African American artists want to keep their music relevant.
By doing this, we can keep R&B music alive. What are your thoughts?
