Dr. Dre Is Selling His Catalog For $200M. The assets will be sold in two separate deals. Shamrock Holding will get 75-90 percent of the revenue. And, Universal Music Group will earn the remaining shares.
According to Complex, the sales will include artist royalties and producer royalties. Andre “Dr. Dre” Young is selling shares of music with Kendrick Lamar releases.
Also, he is selling the writer’s share for songs on “The Chronic.” In other words, he sold the master recordings of “The Chronic.” However, Snoop may try to convince Dre to hold on to the Chronic.
Having said this, Dre is not selling his share in “Aftermath.” Attorney for Dre Peter Paterno shopped to find him the best deal. At this time, Dre, Shamrock nor UMG have commented.
Recently, a lot of music artists have sold their catalogs. For instance, icon Tina Turner, rapper Future ($65-$70m), Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson. Clearly, selling your music catalog is becoming a trend.
