The Greatest Winner: Bill Russell | NBA Today
Heading up the Boston Celtics was Russell. His career started with the Celtics and ended with them. He played in the NBA from 1956-1969. During his tenure, Russell was Most Valuable Player five times.
Also, he was a 12-time NBA All-Star, as reported by Wiki. More importantly, Russell won 11 NBA Championships within his 13-year career. In my opinion, Russell is one of the greatest players of all time.
Having said this, on and off the court Russell was a force to be reckoned with. As a civil rights pioneer, Russell was instrumental in using his celebrity for the movement.
Some would say that Russell’s defensive play was phenomenal. Although Russell only averaged 19.0 points a game, he was a worthy opponent. Not to mention, averaging 2o points per game was legendary.
Additionally, Russell had a great work ethic. Of course, many of the NBA players admired and respected Russell. He will be greatly missed.
Did I fail to mention, that Russell was part of the 1956 U.S. men’s Olympic basketball team? By the way, he brought home a gold medal.
We send our condolences to his family, friends, and the NBA basketball community.
