The USA women’s basketball team dominated in the Tokyo Olympic Games. From the very first game, it was clear the women came to play ball.
USA Women’s Basketball Team Demolished The Competition
This was the fifth gold medal for Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi. And, it was the seventh consecutive gold medal for the USA women’s basketball team. In addition, Allisha Gray, Stefanie Dolson, Kelsey Plum, and Jackie Young participated in a 3×3 women’s basketball game. By the way, this was the 3×3 debut in the Olympics, as reported by ESPN. The women went up against Japan to win the gold. Everyone on the USA women’s team was able to display their superior abilities. In the final game for the gold, the USA women outscored the Japanese women 90-75. One of the veterans on the team shared this,
“It’s been a tremendous journey,” Taurasi said. “It’s 20 years of sacrifice, of putting everything else aside and just wanting to win. It’s never easy playing on this team, the pressure, but this group found a way to win, and I am just happy that this group got to enjoy it.”
Britteny Griner put up a whopping 30 points to lead the offensive attack. In fact, she beat Olympian all-star Lisa Leslie (29). The Japanese women had an amazing team. All of the players on the Japanese team were capable of scoring 3 pointers. The team captain Maki Takada had 17 points of her own. Because of their efforts, the Japanese women were able to win the silver. And, that is quite impressive. Still, the Japanese were no match for the powerfully strong and athletic USA team. The USA women’s basketball team was unstoppable. The team’s coach, Philadelphia Olympic champion Dawn Staley was instrumental in the team’s success.
Dawn’s is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Unfortunately, Dawn has plans to retire after the games. These are the women who represented the USA ( Britteny Griner, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Allisha Gray, Stefanie Dolson, Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young, Ariel Atkins, Napheesa Collier, Chelsea Gray.
