Oscar De La Hoya Accused In Counter Lawsuit By Former Employee
49-year-old boxing great Oscar De La Hoya is named in a lawsuit and is facing sexual assault allegations.
Along with the boxing legend, his tequila brand, Casa Mexico is also named in court documents.
As well as company executives, Michael Gooch and Robert Crossan, and DV Capital Partners.
Filed Wednesday, in a Los Angeles courtroom, a woman claims that she was sexually harassed and sexually assaulted on two separate occasions.
All while she was an employee at Casa Mexico.
On behalf of her client, the woman’s attorney Sylvia Torres-Guillen made the following statement –
“As a survivor of this abuse, she wants others to know this behavior is unacceptable — and it doesn’t matter who you are, we will seek justice on her behalf.”
It should be noted that this filing is a counter-lawsuit.
The woman, as well as company founder Eric Gerardo Leyva-Buccio was sued by Casa Mexico back in December for breach of fiduciary duty.
That case is still pending.
So What Allegedly Happened Back in March of 2020?
As the filing reads, in March of 2020, Casa Mexico organized a company event in Mexico to visit the brand’s distillery.
According to reports by ESPN, the woman alleges that she awoke to De La Hoya knocking on her hotel room door on the first night.
After opening the door, she claims that she saw the boxer with his pants around his ankles.
She further claims that he forced his way into her room and got into her bed.
At that point, she says she pushed him out of her bed and walked him back to his room.
The following morning, De La Hoya apparently failed to show up for a scheduled meeting to tour the distillery.
The unnamed woman says that she went to his room to wake him, and that’s when the alleged encounter took place.
According to the filing, the woman says that De La Hoya pulled her into his bed and sexually assaulted her.
Adding to her story, she then says that upon her return trip to L.A., she attended a company party at a restaurant.
Afterward, some people ended up at De La Hoya’s house.
When they were alone together, she alleges that he –
“revealed and retrieved a sexual object from a stored collection in his house.” and “forcibly inserted the sexual object into her body.”
As for the other involved in the suit, this same woman says she told Casa Mexico execs and nothing happened.
She now says she feared retribution from the company if she spoke out about the alleged abuse.
Among the claims that the woman is making are –
- sexual harassment
- sexual battery
- gender discrimination
- wrongful termination
- negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress
De La Hoya Denies All Allegations Of Sexual Assault
Issuing the following statement, Oscar De La Hoya denies all these allegations, saying –
“With the 24-hour news cycle we all find ourselves in, more often than not, malicious and unjust accusations are interpreted as truth without the evidence to support their erroneous claims. I am confident my legal team will resolve this matter and prove my innocence.”
De La Hoya is a former six-division champion with 11 titles, as well as an Olympic gold medalist.
He is an L.A. native with dual American and Mexican citizenship.
