Aoki made her modeling debut at the Pyer Moss Couture fashion show. This Harvard student and daughter of famous parents, Russell Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons rocked the runway.
Aoki went From Harvard to Couture
Aoki is just 18 and already she is making quite a stir in the modeling world. In her runway debut, Aoki looks stunning in Couture design at the Pyer Moss fashion show. Is Aoki following in her mother’s footsteps? Is Aoki stepping away from Harvard to pursue modeling? And, does Aoki have what it takes to conquer the modeling world. It’s true that Aoki got into Harvard based on her own merits, not her parent’s celebrity. Of course, Aoki took pointers from her mom. Which made perfect sense.
“This event marked the first time a black-owned brand, led by designer Kirby Jean – Raymond showed a collection during Paris Couture Week. Aoki walked down the runway wearing an eye-catching brown– checkered pantsuit adorned with various colored chess pieces, designed as an homage to the game.”
This highly anticipated event highlighted Paris Couture Fashion Week. It was held at the former Madam C. J. Walker mansion, in Irvington, NJ. The Pyer Moss Couture show was an ode to Black Inventors. Here is what Teen Vogue said about the star-studded event, Kerby – Jean Raymond (the first black designer to display his fashions)” transported audiences into a surrealist world using compelling silhouettes to celebrate Black inventors.” Rapper 22Gz performed with a violin orchestra playing behind him as the models strutted down the runway. It was really something to behold.
After the show, Aoki shared this message on her IG.
“Thank you so much for including me, trusting me to do your genius justice, and giving me my first haute couture runway experience that I will never forget. The people I worked with and met during this journey are all the definitions of passion and professionalism. I’m forever grateful, still crying a little. ♟🖤✨🤍,”
We must not forget, Aoki is the second daughter of Russell and Kimora Simmons. Her famous mom Kimora started her modeling career at 13, as an exclusive Chanel model. And, Kimora enjoyed great success as a model. But when Kimora and music mogul Russell Simmons married(1998), well, let us just say they were Hollywood’s royalty. Kimora and Russell revolutionized urban wear with “baby Phat” clothing. Baby Phat had clothing for the entire family. The clothing line set the bar high for others in the fashion industry. Many celebrities were seen out on the town wearing baby phat.
Way before Russell married Kimora, he was quite successful in the music business. Russell blazed the trail for blacks in the music industry. Russell was the co-founder of “Def Jam Records (1984).” Russell and his partner and friend co-founder Rick Rubin made millions together. Both men were instrumental in the careers of (LL Cool J, Run- DMC, Public Enemy & The Beastie Boys). In the beginning, Russell and Rick ran the business out of a dorm room. Of course, they moved to more accomodating space. Rick and Russell inspired a generation. Especially, as it relates to entrepreneurship. In addition, Russell appeared in the cult classic movie “Krush Grove.”
In addition, Russell created the hit comedy show. “Def Comedy Jam.” Need I say more. To sum it up, Aoki has greatness in her DNA. Whether Aoki will continue to model or not, remains to be seen. Nevertheless, it will be great to see where her career will take her.
