The 81 – year – old music legend has sold her recordings, writings, and likeness. In addition, the sale includes studio albums, soundtracks, and other compilations, as reported by USA Today. What we know about the sale is Turner will be still be signed with the Warner Music record label. And, the sale of her music to BMG will “safeguard her inspirational legacy.” At least that is what we are being told. Also, Turner shared this,
“The protection of my life’s work, my musical inheritance, is something personal,” Turner said in a statement. “I am confident that with BMG and Warner Music my work is in professional and reliable hands.”
Turner started her career with former husband Ike Turner. And, unfortunately, Turner’s relationship with Ike was so abusive she filed for divorce. After her divorce from Ike, Turner changed her style of R&B which included Rock’N’Roll. By doing so, Turner’s music went global. Not only that, but Turner’s image and likeness went through the stratosphere. Turner is one of the most iconic living legends of all time. Turner has sold out concerts all over the globe. Turner’s movie”What’s Love Got To Do With It”, created mega success for her. Then Turner went on to make her 5th studio album”Private Dancer”(1984). Needless to say, Turner’s music is phenomenal.
What is so amazing about Turner’s career, it has spanned for more than 50 years. There are not many entertainers who have had the success as Turner. In addition, Turner was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in May. Turner has eight Grammys and many other awards. Personally, there has never been any other female entertainer with such energy. Until a few years ago, Turner was still performing on stage in concerts.
The BMG music company did release a statement,
“We are honored to take on the job of managing Tina Turner’s musical and commercial interests. It is a responsibility we take seriously and will pursue diligently. She is truly and simply, the best.”
Turner is not the only entertainer to sell her masters. Music legend Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Stevie Nicks, Neil Young, and Shakira have all sold their music catalog to music companies. Also, according to Rolling Stone, there has been a boom in music artists trying to sell their music catalogs. It is possibly due to the pandemic. Be that as it may, Turner must have thought this was the right business move to make.
