After Being Acquitted in 2002, R Kelly Faced New Allegations in 2019
On February 2, 2019, Kelly was indicted on new sexual charges.
He was arrested in Brooklyn, NY, and taken into custody on July 11, 2019, and has remained jailed while he awaited trial.
Though he pleaded not guilty to all charges, the jury didn’t quite see it that way.
As they only needed a Friday afternoon, and a Monday morning to reach their verdict.
On September 27th, the famed singer/songwriter/record producer has been found guilty on all 9 federal counts charged against him, including –
- sex crimes
- human trafficking
- obstruction of justice
Aside from being a highly successful artist, he’s written and produced multiple hit songs for other artists, like Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone”.
Also, he was instrumental in the start of many music careers, namely, Aaliyah.
However, she was also one of the subjects of his trial, as Kelly was accused of impregnating and marrying the young star at the tender age of 15.
One of the victims, in this case, was one of his so-called girlfriends, Jocelyn Savage.
Representing her and her family, Gerald Griggs stated –
“The conviction today spoke volumes in accountability when it comes to people hearing black women and believing their stories.”
