Pop Smoke had a promising career ahead
On February 19, 2020, New York rapper Bashar” Pop Smoke” Jackson was killed in a home invasion. Pop Smoke was renting a home in Los Angeles when gunmen entered his home and proceeded to rob and kill him. At first, details of the incident were sketchy. However, on July 19, 2020, the Los Angeles police department announced there had been an arrest in Pop Smoke’s death. There were five people arrested but only four were charged, Corey Walker, 19, Keandre Rodgers, 18, and two minors, whose names were not released. The fifth person was not charged in the shooting.
Later that year, we found out that the person responsible for Pop Smoke’s murder was only 15. During the investigation, while the 15 – year – old was in prison an informant shared details with authorities. Now, whether the prison informant’s information is credible remains to be seen. However, the 15 – year- old’s account of the shooting was similar.
He admitted they were there to steal Pop Smoke’s diamond-encrusted Rolex and Cuban link chain. But, Pop Smoke resisted, and a confrontation ensued. The rapper was viciously attacked while in the shower. When it was all over, Pop Smoke’s companion witnessed him screaming and running from the bathroom. He was shot in the back. Unfortunately, Pop Smoke did not survive the home invasion. When the news broke of his death, fans, and celebrities took to social media placing heartfelt messages to the fallen rapper.
Just yesterday, Pop Smoke would have celebrated his 21st birthday had he lived. In wake of his birthday, his new music “Faith” was released. The album has been met with mixed reviews. Especially, from one of his primary producers 808Melo. 808Melo admitted to Pop Smoke fans he was not involved in this new project. Also, he apologized to Pop Smoke.
“Don’t complain to me about the album I had no involvement in it & you guys know that, wrote Melo on Twitter, “Sorry bro I miss you.”
Although, others do not share 808Melo’s views. How could they, the project includes collaborations with some big hip hop artists, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Future, 42 Dugg, 21 Savage, and Rick Ross are featured in songs on the album. Of course, Pop Smoke once admitted he did not like working with artists. Which is evident in his former projects. Luckily, fans do not have to take 808Melo’s word. They can make their own assumptions by listening to the album. Check out “Faith” tell me what you think.
