Paula Jai Parker is famous for her roles in movies such as “Fridays”, “Hustle & Flow”, and “My Baby’s Daddy. ” Also, Paula has worked on TV shows “The Wayans”, and “The Weird Al Show”.
In addition, Paula portrayed the voice of Trudy Proud in the animated series “The Proud Family.” Earlier in her career, Paula appeared in Rome’s video “I Belong to You”, Robin Thicke’s video “Follow My Lead”, and Jay-Z’s “Girls, Girls, Girls.”
So, when Paula talks about “The Casting Couch” with women in Hollywood, it’s safe to say she knows. During her interview with hosts, O’God and SamAnt Paula shared some of her own experiences.
Paula admits actresses are subject to sexual harassment
We have all heard the horror stories of sexual harassment, assault of actresses. Some of Hollywood’s movie executives have been accused of horrific acts against women. In the male-dominated industry, women are often the victims of powerful men. Unfortunately, there are some movie executives and producers who expect more than acting from women. Of course, famous producer Harvey Weinstein comes to mind. Harvey made headline news for his alleged predatory practices with women.
Harvey Weinstein allegedly had sexually harassed and assaulted women for decades. Dozens of women came forward with similar claims about Harvey’s assaults against them. By the time the news hit the media it was eighty–five women who accused Harvey of inappropriate behavior. There were so many allegations against Harvey, he had no choice but to turn himself into authorities.
Harvey was convicted of two counts of criminal sexual acts. The Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. shared this with news outlets,
“Harvey Weinstein deployed nothing less than an army of spies to keep them silent,” he added. “But they refused to be silent, and they were heard. Their words took down a predator and put him behind bars and gave hope to survivors of sexual violence all across the world.”
Harvey was sentenced in 2020 to criminal sexual assault of at least two of the women. He received 23 years. Having said that, I am sure there are sexual predators who have not been caught.
When I listened to Paula talk about how an unknown man on set came into her dressing room while she was partially dressed my antennas went up. Is it possible that Paula had experienced some sort of harassment? Did Paula know any of the women who accused Harvey of sexual harassment?
I got the impression Paula was a little reluctant to talk about some of what goes on. Understandably so. After all, she is still currently working in Hollywood. Who knows what would happen to Paula if she dared to say more. One thing is for sure, Paula takes her husband with her to acting jobs when possible. That alone should give you an idea of what really goes on behind the scenes.
It does appear there is a hefty price to pay for fame. In particular, with actresses. Even though, the “Me Too” movement has made great strides in helping victims. We still have a long way to go. Sadly, there are still victims who don’t have the courage to speak out.
