Naomi Osaka Withdraws From French Open. The tennis star chose not to play this in the French tournament.
Naomi is taking some time away from tennis
Naomi Osaka withdraws from French Open. This comes as a surprise to Naomi’s fans. But the 23- year – old does not want to distract other players.
In fact, Naomi released a statement to that affect. It appears that the tennis star is having some sort of mental issues. Or at least that is what was reported by ESPN.
With that said, Naomi believes her decision was the best thing for the tournament. Here is some of what Naomi said on social media,
“I think now the best thing for the tournament, the other players and my well-being is that I withdraw so that everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis going on in Paris,” Osaka wrote. “I never wanted to be a distraction and I accept that my timing was not ideal and message could have been clearer.”
The tournament officials responded with this,
“First and foremost, we are sorry and sad for Naomi Osaka,” Moretton said. “The outcome of Naomi withdrawing from Roland Garros is unfortunate. We wish her the best and the quickest possible recovery and we look forward to having Naomi in our tournament next year. As all the Grand Slams, the WTA, the ATP and the ITF, we remain very committed to all athletes’ well-being and to continually improving all aspects of players’ experience in our tournaments including with the media like we have always tried to do.”
In addition, Naomi admitted since her win at the US Open in 2018 she has suffered with depression and anxiety. However, it was her not attending media obligations that influenced her decision.
This young phenom has changed the sport of tennis. And, similar to the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, Naomi has faced a lot of pressure. Personally, I think Naomi will be back with a vengeance. So, don’t count her out just yet.
