Lil Baby And James Harden Detained By Paris Police. Lil Baby was handcuffed and taken to the police station. James Harden was not arrested.
Lil Baby caught with cannabis aka marijuana
During fashion week in Paris, many celebrities hang out. Unfortunately, Lil Baby and his friend NBA basketball star James Harden were pulled over by police.
Media outlets were quick to release the news. Although details are a little sketchy, it appears Lil Baby, James, and a few other men were riding in a vehicle.
French police stopped them, frisked them all, then searched the vehicle, as reported by USA Today. Allegedly, a strong odor was coming from the vehicle.
Or at least, that is what police reports saying. During the search, police confiscated 32 grams of cannabis. James was frisked but he was not detained.
On the other hand, Lil Baby was arrested along with two other men. At this time, we don’t have the names of the other arrested. Probably, because they are not famous celebrities.
Be that as it may, Lil Baby paid a fine and was released. I was wondering why Lil Baby was just let go with a fine and not imprisoned.
When I researched French laws I uncovered this information,
(Sept. 23, 2020) On September 1, 2020, a French law giving police officers authorization to issue on-the-spot fines to those caught in possession of small amounts of certain drugs entered into force. The new measure, which was passed in 2019 by the French legislature to amend article L3421-1 of the Public Health Code, is by no means a step towards decriminalization. Indeed, using illicit drugs remains punishable by up to one year of jail time and a fine of up to 3,750 euros (about US$4,450) under article L3421-1. However, under the new provision, prosecution for drug possession may be avoided by the payment of a fine of 200 euros (about $237). This fine may be reduced to 150 euros (about $178) if it is paid within 15 days, but is increased to 450 euros (about $534) if paid after 45 days. Even if the option to be fined is chosen over a prosecution in court, however, the offense of possessing illegal drugs is still added to the offender’s criminal record. according to Loc/gov.org.”
So, because of the changes in the law in Paris, Lil Baby was only fined. In addition, not every place in Paris has strict laws on cannabis.
Therefore, instead of prison time, fortunately, Lil Baby was released. However, whether or not Lil Baby has to come back to Paris for a court date, is not known at this time.
We will certainly keep you all posted.
