Jussie Smollett Will Have His Day In Court
Actor Jussie Smollet is set to get his day in court.
The Fox series Empire star was involved in an alleged hate crime that received massive media attention.
Though at first, the story seemed plausible, several began to give the details of what was being alleged the side-eye.
After first believing that the star was assaulted on the streets of Chicago in the early morning hours back in 2019.
Social media, along with law enforcement began to question every detail of the alleged crime.
At first, Jussie was charged with disorderly conduct.
However, that charge was dropped about a month later.
Shortly after this incident, Smollett was written off of the hit show, Empire.
Throughout his ordeal, he had the support of his former co-stars.
Eventually, Jussie Smollett was accused by the Chicago police of staging the entire event.
He was indicted last year by a grand jury on 6 counts of filing a false report.
Now facing charges involving the staging of a hate crime, he is set to go to trial next month.
According to a Cook County judge, jury selection is due to begin on November 29th.
Key witnesses in the trial will be the very brothers that Smollett originally accused of the crime, Ola and Abel Osundairo.
Even though the date has been set to start the trial, a hearing on a motion to dismiss is also scheduled for October 15th.
