The notorious alleged gang lord Larry Hoover has been in prison for years. However, some big named celebrities have been tirelessly trying to get him released. Rapper Kanye West has been one of the celebrities to shed the light on Hoover’s case, However, it appears that Drake, Kanye, and J. Prince are teaming up.
Who Is Larry Hoover?
Hoover was the leader of a Chicago gang by the name Supreme Gangsters, which merged with a rival gang to become Black Gangster Disciple Nation. In 1973, Hoover was sentenced to 150 to 200 years in prison for killing a drug dealer, Williams Young. Young was murdered on February 26, 1973. Hoover and his accomplice, Andrew Howard were charged with the murder. Hoover was sent to the maximum-security Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, Illinois.
While in prison Hoover became a positive influence on other inmates and the warden recognized him as an advocate for change inside the prison system. Also, Hoover was able to inspire his outside followers to stop the violence and instead promote education. Hoover encouraged members of the Disciples to go to school, pick up a trade and become model citizens in the community. The gang which was once known for selling drugs and promoting crime is now known as Growth and Development as opposed to Gangster Disciple.
Growth and Development created non-profit organizations that register voters, a music label that helps needy children, a series of peaceful protests to fight the closing of public programs, and even a clothing line. With that being said, celebrities such as Kanye West, J.Prince, and Drake think Hoover should be freed from prison. Kanye went as far as mentioning Hoover during his meeting with former President Donald Trump.
However, Trump did not grant Hoover clemency Hoover. According to music mogul, J.Prince in his Instagram post mentioned Drake and Kanye are working on a plan to get Hoover out of prison, as reported by The Source. The details of the plan to get Hoover released are still unknown. Hopefully, after getting this additional support from Drake, Hoover will be released. Stay Tuned!!!
