Tyler Perry Makes Bold Statement About Madea Character!!!
Tyler Perry makes bold statement about Madea character. During his award speech at the BET Awards show actor and film director Tyler Perry speaks profoundly. Tyler spoke out about the importance of owning your own business. And, he added that he was not waiting for Hollywood to support his work.
Madea’s character was created to inspire women
Tyler Perry has become a household name. Tyler’s career started with producing and starring in his own plays as Madea. The character of Madea is a combination of Tyler’s mother, aunts and women in his family. During his acceptance speech Tyler made a bold statement about dressing up as a woman, according to Vanity Fair. And, he mentioned that the place that his studio is built on was once a confederate Army base. Here is some of what he said on the BET Awards show:
“The studio was once a Confederated Army base, he said. “And, I want you to hear this, which meant that there was Confederate soldiers on that base, plotting and planning on ho to keep 3.9 million negroes enslaved. Now that land is owned by on negro.”
” Also, While everybody was fighting for a seat at the table talking about #OscarsSoWhite, #OscarsSoWhite, I said, Y’all go ahead and do that,” he said. “But while you’re fighting for a seat at the table, I’ll be down in Atlanta building my own. Because what I know for sure is that if I could just build this table, God will prepare it for me in the presence of my enemies.”
Why is Tyler wearing a dress so problematic for some? Why should an African American male resort to wearing a dress to be successful. Does playing a woman tarnish the African American male image? Should we over look this portrayal of emasculation of the African American male? With all that Tyler has done to create jobs and careers for African Americans should he be criticized?
