Rappers From The Bronx

Rappers From The Bronx

Rappers From The Bronx. There are a few big hip-hop names you may recognize from The Bronx, New York. And, some you may not. However, hip-hop allegedly originated from there.

Was Hip-Hop Born In The Bronx?

Rappers From The Bronx. Naturally, there is an ongoing debate as to whether hip-hop originated in the Bronx. While some think hip-hop got its start in Harlem. Others beg to differ.

However, it is undeniable that The Bronx style of hip-hop rules. Of course, some great rappers came out of that borough. With that being said, 1520 Sedgwick Avenue will forever be remembered.

Let’s just say for argument’s sake  DJ Kool Herc is the originator. What harm will it do? Either way, we can’t deny that DJ Herc’s contribution to hip-hop is monumental.

So, if we are going with this theory, The Morris Heights high-rise project was the original place. Hip-hop parties goers gathered there.

DJ Herc would spin on the turntables and his friend Coke La Rock would rap, as reported by Hip Hop Golden Age. Clearly, you see that this new style of music was born.

The DJ would spin the record and the MC would rap over the music. Never before had anyone seen such a method. For this reason, many young people started to attend hip-hop parties.

This new music took on its own identity. It was like wildfire and how it spread throughout New York. Before we knew it rappers were on street corners spitting rhythms.

Some were beatboxing. Others were dancing and rapping. While some were break dancing to the beat of hip-hop. More importantly, hip-hop stars were born in The Bronx.

Here are some famous rappers from The Bronx.

One of my favorite rappers of all time KRS-One was from The Bronx. He is one of the first so-called conscience rappers. His famous song entitle “My Philosophy” was one of a kind.

Boogie Down Production was  KRS-One’s rap group with members Scott La Rock and D-Nice. All hip-hop heads are very familiar with BDP. Another great song from BDP was “Criminal Minded.”

All one needs to do is listen to KRS-One’s raps and you know he understood the assignment.

The Bronx Produced Some Great Hip-Hop Artists

As a matter of fact, other rappers from “The Boogie Down Bronx” include Big Pun, Slick Rick, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Kurtis Blow, D-Nice, CL Smooth, and Cardi B, and Afrika Bambaataa.

We must not forget, famous rap groups such as Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5, Terror Squad, Funky Four Plus One, and, The Treacherous Three are Bronx natives.

To top it off, Lil Mama, Tim Dog, Peter Gunz, Lord Tariq, Cuban Link, Swizz Beatz, and French Montana hail from The Bronx. Now, that is quite an impressive list, wouldn’t you say?

Some of the people on this list have become hip-hop royalty. For instance, every song on Cardi B’s “Invasion of Privacy” album has become platinum.

Mary J Blige is one of the most famous Bronx entertainers. She is known to be “The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul.” Therefore, we could not forget to mention her.

Truthfully speaking, The Bronx put hip-hop on the map. Dig That!!!
