A tribute to the slain rapper was held at the Los Angeles Metro system. One of the stations has been renamed in tribute to his 40th birthday.
Hyde Park Station will be temporarily named “The Nipsey Hussle Station.” This station holds special significance for the rapper, as it is located in the neighborhood where he grew up.
It is where Ermias Asghedom, aka Nipsey, made such a significant impact by giving back to his community. His music and philanthropy are being remembered.
Renaming the station serves as a testament to Nipsey Hussle’s influence and legacy in Los Angeles. Additionally, Nipsey’s photos are draped around the station pillars, according to TMZ.
As part of the tribute, the LA Metro has also installed a poster with the “Marathon” theme. It’s been six years since Nipsey was gunned down in front of his clothing store, “The Marathon.”
However, Nipsey’s legacy continues to make strides in the Los Angeles community. To have the honor of the city recognize Nipsey as more than a rapper is a testament.
Nipsey Hussle’s Legacy Lives On Through LA Metro
Nipsey Hussle’s legacy continues to live on through the LA Metro’s tribute. His estate issued a commemorative TAP card to riders on the Metro.
Riders in LA were given discounted cards to ride the rail to pay homage to Nipsey. One of the card designs was named “Crenshaw & Slauson.”
And, the other limited edition card was designed with the logo “Watts.”These limited edition tickets will be available at Hyde Park, Crenshaw, Compton, and Hollywood/Vine.
In total, there were 12,000 special cards made, according to the 4 Los Angeles News. As we mentioned earlier, Hyde Park was renamed to commemorate Nipsey’s 40th birthday.
More importantly, the tickets were made affordable for those who ride the LA Metro. If you know anything about Nipsey, he was instrumental in bringing equity back to his LA community.
In other words, Nipsey gave back in a great way to those who were less fortunate. Nipsey Hussle’s family launched a neighborhood Nip Foundation.
According to The LA Times, this foundation was created to continue his impact in LA. It was Nipsey’s mission to be intentional about doing what was right for his community.
Giving back to the commuters who ride the Metro was a huge blessing. Especially since Nipsey once rode the Metro from Crenshaw to Watts to record music.
