And, people forget it’s the DJ who sets the tone. In other words, the DJ prepares the crowd. Once the record spins the rapper goes in.
There are a few DJ’s who come to mind. For instance, Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jef fare a famous duo.
How could we deny DJ Jazzy Jeff impact on hip-hop music? According to XXL Mag, it was the DJ who was on the ground floor of hip-hop.
It was their responsibility to perfect a breakbeat to move the crowd. I can remember watching DJ’s rummaging through orange crates.
They searched for the right album to scratch and mix. Of course, it was DJ Kool Herc who introduced the two-turntable method.
That is why he is called the father of hip-hop. Further down the line, mixers and huge speakers were introduced.
This made the DJ’s job much easier. Also, the art of mixing has been enhanced by computer technology.
