Ice Cube Claims Warner Bros Rejected Fridays. He tried his best to get it done. But to no avail. Warner Bros would not budge.
Why Wasn’t There A Friday’s 4?
Ice Cube Claims Warner Bros Rejected Fridays. What O’Shea”Ice Cube” Jackson was shocking? He claims Warner does not believe in the “culture” as reported by Complex. Wow!
I would have never seen that coming. During his interview with Drink Champs, Ice Cube spoke candidly. This was after N.O.R.E practically beg for a part.
There was no shame in N.O.R.E., he wants to be in the movie (Fridays). Make no mistake, Warners made mega money off of Fridays. So, it is surprising to hear they are not interested.
Friday’s has become a “cult classic.” Many of us loved watching Fridays. At least I did. However, like most of you, I wondered what happened. Here is some of what he mentioned,
“I had two scripts. I wrote one, it was the s**t. They were like, ‘Yo, we don’t want Craig and Day Day in jail.’ ‘Cause Craig and Day Day went to jail for selling weed before it was legal. I was like, ‘What you mean? This s**t is funny.’ Then after they rejected it, they had all these f**king movies about going to jail,”
He went on to say,
“So then I wrote another script, and the script was really about … the youngsters in the hood having beef with the OG’s in the hood and Craig has to come back and squash that because Smokey’s son is the new Deebo and he’s wildin,’” he continued. “They tripped on it man, they fucked around and then John Witherspoon passed. Then Deebo passed … they just fucked it up.”
Does Ice Cube own the rights to Fridays. If I were him I would do Friday’s 4 without them. After all, he is the creative genius behind the concept. Also, he could create any storyline he wants.
Not to mention, adding new characters since Deebo and Pop are gone. What do you all think? Should Ice Cube move forward? Or create a script that Warner would approve.
At this point, it does appear he had enough. Even though, without Craig’s Dad presence, it might be hard. John Witherspoon was a comedic genius. His character would be hard to replace.
Furthermore, Tiny Lister’s character Deebo would be hard to replace. Let’s not forget, comedian Anthony Johnson’s portrayal of crackhead Ezel. But I do think Ice Cube pulls it off.
Especially because his character Craig was iconic. Equally important, is Mike Epp’s character DaDa. To top it off, putting Chris Tucker’s character Smokey in would be phenomenal.
Having said this, I can visualize a Friday’s 4 happening. What say you? Would you go see it or not? Inquiring minds want to know.
