Media Pioneer Cathy Hughes Was Honored. Hughes was inducted into the Black Music Entertainment Walk of Fame. The founder of Urban One really deserves this honor.
Cathy Hughes Is A Legend in Media Entertainment
Media Pioneer Cathy Hughes Was Honored. Hughes has the largest black-owned broadcast company. Her broadcast company expands throughout radio, TV, and digital platforms.
She has been very instrumental in expanding the empowerment of African Americans in these genres, as reported by her cathyhughes.com.
“The Walk of Fame is a joint initiative by the Black American Music Association (BAMAssoc) and Georgia Entertainment Caucus (GEC).
The Black Music Month Induction recognized and honored pioneering artists, entertainers, and visionaries who have positively impacted both Black culture and the community at large.”
During the ceremony, Hughes’s son Alfred C. Liggins III and her grandson gave a speech. Here is some of what each said,
“I am very proud to be here today to induct my mother, the founder and chairperson of Urban One, into the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame.” Her grandson Charlie Liggins, followed with,
“On behalf of my grandmother Cathy Hughes, I’d like to thank the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame for honoring her with a star. Keep listening to Radio One. We love you Atlanta.”
Then Hughes gave a very heartfelt speech,
“First and foremost, let’s give praise and thanks to God from whom all blessings flow. Let’s hear it Atlanta for God. We thank you dear God. We could have been anywhere else but we’re here today in unity and love celebrating not only the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame but Juneteenth. Let’s hear it. You [Atlanta] are the Mecca of Black excellence.”
Also, Bishop TD Jakes and Joseph”Rev Run” Simmons were honored, as well. Having said this, this was quite a prestigious honor for Hughes. She had done so much for our communities.
Not to mention, Hughes is responsible for the success of Radio One. Radio One has over 60 radio stations. Additionally, one of her most popular programs on the radio is “The Quiet Storm.”
In fact, the Quiet Storm airs on WDAS in Philadelphia and 480 other stations nationwide. To top it off, Hughes’s media company has dominated several music genres,(R&B, Gospel, Hip-Hop, Talk Radio).
Up to the present time, Hughes is still making strides in media. TV One is the largest black cable television network. We all enjoy TV shows such as UnSung and Uncensored.
Not only but also, the “Ricky Smiley Morning Show and Tom Joyner radio shows are huge programs, as reported by Eruweb. Truthfully speaking, Hughes has been such an inspiration for black women.
