Jermaine Dupri throw shade at today’s female rappers!!! Does Jermaine have a point? Are female hip hop/rappers only stripper rapping? Dupri really threw some shade at Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion.
Why did Jermaine Dupri throw shade at Cardi B and not Nicki?
Jermaine Dupri will not score any points with Cardi B or Megan Thee Stallion for making such a negative statement about them, according to The Source. Is Nicki’s style of rap much different than Cardi’s? Does Cardi talk about the same things in her music and other female hip hop artist don’t? Shouldn’t today’s female hip hop artist be allowed to express themselves any way they want? Although, Dupri has been a huge influence in the music business, does it mean he should make such an analogy. Some female hip hop pioneers such as Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Trina, and Lil Kim may not agree with Dupri. Especially, since artist creativity is most important. Here is what Dupri said on People TV:
” I can’t really say, “Dupri responded before the host specifically asked about Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B. “The only reason why I can’t say is because I feel they’re all rapping about the same things. I don’t think they’re showing us who’s the best rapper. I think they’re trying to show – for me, it’s like strippers rapping.”
And, as far as rap goes, I’m not getting who is the best rapper, I’m getting like,’ Ok, you got a story about you dancing in the club, you got a story about you dancing in the club, you got a story about you dancing in the club,’it’s like ok, who’s going to be the rapper? he continued.”
It sounds like Jermaine Dupri is reminiscing on the days that female hip hop pioneers like Queen Latifah and MC Lyte talked about social issues, poverty, and gender equality in the community. So, should we be comparing today’s female hip hop artist like Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion to Lil Kim, Salt-n-Pepa, Trina, Lauren Hill, and MC Lyte? How can you say that female hip hop artist are just strippers rapping? Especially, since Cardi B and Nicki Minaj have been highly successful. Not sure what Jermaine Dupri was getting at but he is going to get some serious clap back from Cardi B for sure.
