SZA’s SOS Album Breaks Multiple Records, Passes By Some Iconic Artist On Her Way To Reaching Platinum Status

Check out the records she breaks along the way –

  • Beyonce – SOS becomes the first album from a Black female artist to top the chart in its first two weeks since Beyoncé’s self-titled album dropped in 2013
  • Janet Jackson – SOS becomes the first R&B album from a woman since Janet Jackson’s 1993 release janet to spend its first four weeks at No. 1
  • Adele – SOS becomes the first album to reign on the chart for five consecutive weeks since Adele’s 30 in late 2021
  • Mariah Carey – SOS matches Mariah Carey’s Daydream, which spent 5 weeks at No. 1 in late 1995 and early 1996
  • Usher – after 6 weeks, SOS was recognized for having the most consecutive weeks at No. 1 for an R&B album since Usher’s Confessions
  • Whitney Houston – after 7 weeks at No. 1 SOS becomes the first R&B/hip-hop album by a woman, or R&B album by any act, to spend its first seven weeks at No. 1 since Whitney Houston’s Whitney in 1987.

Now that’s quite a run.

SZA’s SOS album was finally plucked off the top spot after 7 weeks.
