Is It Fair For DA Willis To Allegedly Target Rappers?
Fulton DA Declares War On Rap Lyrics. Rappers beware. If you talk about crimes in your lyrics, you will be prosecuted. At least, that is what Fulton County District Attorney said.
DA Fani Willis intends to prosecute rappers based on their criminal lyrics. In a press conference on Monday, August 29th, 2022, Willis went in on rap lyrics. These declarations come as a result of gang activity.
According to All Hip Hop, 26 “Drug Rich Gang” were indicted. And, Willis is heading the indictment. Although Willis admits she is going after rap lyrics, she is not targeting rappers.
Here is what she shared,
“I’m not targeting anyone,” she said. “However, you do not get to commit crimes in my county and then decide to brag on it, which you do that for a form of intimidation and to further the gang, and not be held responsible.”
While that is not her intent. There are some who will beg to differ. Especially because she is a black woman. And, some may see her as a turncoat. However, it is her responsibility to fight crime.
Having said this, if you don’t write about criminal acts, you are safe. If you are hell-bent on talking about robbing, stealing, and killing innocent people. Then you will be prosecuted.
How often have some rappers glorified the criminal lifestyle? We should all know by now crime does not pay. Not to mention, two rappers are now awaiting their fate.
Rapper Gunna and Young Thug are facing considerable jail time. Allegedly, Young Thug is an alleged member of the street gang. This was a warning to Atlanta rappers.
More importantly, Willis wanted rappers to know if you don’t rap about crime, then you have no worries. Not only that, but she was clear she will do her job. So, if that statement applies to you, get it together.
At least, stop rapping about potential crimes. There are so many other things to rap about. Nevertheless, I am sure Willis will get dragged by some in the hip-hop community.
