Clifford Harris, better known as “T.I.,” has enjoyed a remarkable music career.
And, in recent years, Harris has been successful in vitalizing his neighborhood in Bankhead.
The Atlanta rapper is a native of the city and gives back hugely.
As we all know, T.I. has a lot of real estate holdings in Atlanta.
According to Afrotech, Harris is trying to keep Atlanta natives in the city.
So, he has taken on the challenge of investing heavily in affordable housing.
Finally, T.I. was able to celebrate the opening of his dream project.
Residences in Bankhead now have an affordable housing complex.
Atlanta’s mayor, Andre Dickens, helped to make the project come to life.
Also, Housing Chief Operating Officer Terri Lee was involved, as stated by Vibe.
Because of Harris’s efforts, the Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway units are open.
All of the parties involved recognized the need for affordable housing in the city.
Having said this, Harris shared reasons for marking this venture,
“With gentrification, 95 percent of the people who work in Atlanta can’t afford to live in Atlanta because the natives of the community, they’ve been pushed out by big people who come in with the big developments,” T.I. told hosts Rashad Bilal and Troy Milling at the time. “Our grandparents and great-grandparents, the houses they worked hard to own for decades, now they can’t afford to pay the taxes. They lose their houses. Now we are living on the outskirts of the city. That changes a lot of things within the infrastructure of the city — whether that’s politics, it changes the culture.”
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Harris reflected on the 25 units of supportive housing for youth.
Perhaps, now the gainsayers will quiet their noise about Clifford “T.I.” Harris.
