Published

on

The trial of embattled singer Robert”R” Kelly is underway in New York. And, there have been some very shocking testimonies. Kelly has been accused of sex trafficking. Allegedly, Kelly has been abusing underaged girls and women for decades.

How Much Time Is R Kelly Facing?

Some of the charges against Kelly include sexual exploitation of a child, bribery, kidnapping, forced labor, and sexual trafficking across state lines, as reported by NPR. Kelly has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.  Assistant U.S. Attorney Maria Melendez starts the trial by saying Kelly is a “predator.” She goes on to tell the jury he was “a man who used his fame, popularity and the individuals at his disposal to target and groom girls, boys and young women for his sexual gratification.” This is a very damaging statement against the “Pied- Piper of R&B.”

On the other hand, Kelly’s defense attorney, Nicole Blank Becker is claiming that those accusing him are liars. In fact, attorney Nicole suggests that the accusers were in long-term relationships with Kelly. She added, “you’re going to hear that some of these relationships were beautiful.” If convicted of these heinous crimes against children and young women R Kelly may be in prison for decades.

Why Is R. Kelly On Trial?

One of the most serious crimes Kelly is being charged with is criminal sex trafficking across state lines. These charges come with very stiff penalties. Especially, as it relates to sex trafficking minors. Federal prosecutors have outlined the case very carefully. The charges coincided with another case in Illinois. In addition, included in the charges against Kelly are child pornography and13 counts of obstruction of justice. For the average person, Kelly’s case may seem complex. However, Attorney Phylicia Pearson provides an in-depth description of what charges Kelly is facing.

In Phylicia’s interview with hosts O’God and SamAnt, we get a glimpse into Kelly’s trial. Attorney Phylicia discussed how Kelly ended up with federal sex trafficking charges. Witnesses in the Kelly case claim he directed them to drive girls and young women all over the country. Phylicia admits the case against Kelly is very solid. The only way Kelly can get a lesser sentence if convicted would be to take a plea agreement. Of course, that would be up to NY prosecutors and Kelly’s legal team.

Also, Phylicia does not see a full acquittal for Kelly. Kelly will no doubt be charged with some of the crimes. Phylicia provides information about HIPAA(Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act 1996) Laws which are relative to the accusations about Kelly giving alleged victims Herpes. Keep in mind, the HIPAA laws are limited in protecting client doctor rights. A legal matter can supersede confidentiality agreements, as it relates to HIPAA. In this case, Kelly’s doctor was obligated by law to reveal he had Herpes.

R Kelly’s Accusers Testify Against Him

Jerhonda Pace one of Kelly’s first accusers took the stand. She admitted that she was only 16-years-old when Kelly allegedly abused her. Jerhonda also accused Kelly of beating her, choking her, sexually assaulting her, and knowingly gave her herpes, as reported by Washington Post. Because of Jerhonda’s testimony, Kelly’s personal physician was called to testify. And, it was found out that Kelly was treated for herpes. Some of Jerhonda’s testimony was horrific. She said that Kelly wanted her to appear younger than she actually was.

Allegedly, Kelly asked her to put her hair in pigtails and dress like a Girl Scout. The next alleged victim, Jane said she met Kelly in 2015 when she was only 17. She claims their affair lasted for 5 years. Eventually, Jane said she lived with Kelly in Chicago and Atlanta before graduating from high school. Again, some of her testimony against Kelly was horrific. According to Jane, Kelly forced her to have sexual encounters with other women. Kelly was allegedly very controlling. She was not allowed to leave any room without Kelly’s permission.

The trial is just about over. Certainly, we will bring you updates as they arise. Stay Tuned!!!
