Bill Cosby may be released soon. This will be great news for his family. As well, as those who have supported him.
Bill will be released immediately
This news was announced today. The former comedian/actor case was overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. What will happen next?
Normally, when the conviction is overturned the person is set free. In this case, Bill should be home very soon. Here are some of the details, Bill was charged in 2015.
He was charged with drugging and sexually assaulting Andre Constandt. This conviction carried a sentence of 2-to 10 years. To date, Bill has served 2 years of his sentence.
If you can remember, Bill was charged just 12 days before the statute of limitations expired, as reported by NBC News. In the first trial, the prosecutor had decided not to charge him with any crimes.
Unfortunately, Bill began to speak freely about the alleged incidents with women. As a result, he was indicted on other charges. When the trial ended Bill was sentenced and put in prison.
But with the overturning of his conviction Bill is going home. Here is the judges ruling,
“When an unconditional charging decision is made publicly and with the intent to induce action and reliance by the defendant, and when the defendant does so to his detriment (and in some instances upon the advice of counsel), denying the defendant the benefit of that decision is an affront to fundamental fairness, particularly when it results in a criminal prosecution that was foregone for more than a decade,” the high court ruled.
“For these reasons, Cosby’s convictions and judgment of sentence are vacated, and he is discharged.”
With this decision, Bill can’t be recharged with anything concerning the case. Although, the other women who have accused him of similar crimes can present a new case.
I certainly hope that Bill will not have to face any other charges. Especially, since Bill is elderly and not in great health.
