Jay-Z Albums Ranked

Anyone who knows anything about the prolific entrepreneur Shawn Jay-Z’ Carter understands that this is an arbitrary list at best. When it comes to an album critique every one of these selections can be replaced with half a dozen other albums from Hov. That being said, here is our list of Jay-Z albums ranked.

5. The Dynasty: Roc La Familia

We are beginning our list of Jay Z albums ranked with ‘The Dynasty: Roc La Familia’. This work was originally a compilation album from Roc-A-Fella Records, but also included artists such as Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel, Amil and Freeway, which later became another Jay Z solo album. This album is filled with Roc-A-Fella artists. A host of big-name stars made an appearance – including Snoop Dogg, R. Kelly, and Scarface. Jay Z featured producers who were not yet established at the time of the album’s release like Just Blaze, Kanye West, and The Neptunes.

3. 4:44

If you’re into numerology then you know exactly why Jigga chose this set of angel numbers for his album. Not to mention, 4 was the name of an album by his wife, Beyonce’. 4 is her favorite number. Jay Z and Beyonce also have three children, a daughter, and twins, number 4 for each (444). This album exposed us to the evolution of Jay-Z. So many times he rapped as an outsider looking in, but this time, as an insider looking out. The mogul, millionaire, husband, and legend leveled up as a father and a businessman. The lyrics display as much.

2. The Blueprint: 1, 2 and 3

For number 2 on our list of Jay-Z albums ranked we decided to choose The Blueprint, all three albums. Although they are separate, they are a trinity or a single unit of three. Jay-Z showed us that he is quite literally the blueprint for hip hop success and longevity.

1. Everything is Love.

Although this album was by ‘The Carters’, we are including it as a Jay-Z album. Here at number 1 on our list of Jay-Z albums ranked is Everything is Love. Although we love Jay-Z for his machismo, his vulnerability, confessions, and sincerity win every time. From financial fidelity to marital infidelity, Jay-Z shared his growth with us. When listening to this album, the light and darkness, and extreme triumph and failure, makes it clear why on one hook Beyonce sings the refrain, ‘…we went through hell with heaven on our side.”
